Irish agriculture minister and food companies visit Agthia Group as links develop with Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi, October 30, 2013: Ireland’s Minister of Agriculture and Food, H.E. Simon Coveney, led a delegation of Irish companies on a visit to Abu Dhabi food and beverage company Agthia Group this week, as part of a trade mission aiming to build links and increase cooperation between Ireland and the UAE.    
The delegation included executives from the Irish Dairy Board, Glanbia, Dairygold, Lakeland Dairies, Kilbeg Dairies, the Irish Food Board, and the Irish Creamery & Milk Supplier Association (ICMSA).
Discussions between Agthia Group and the Irish delegation centred on increasing trade in high quality food and ingredients, as well as cooperation on food safety and quality, innovation and product development. 
The Irish delegation also offered to facilitate knowledge and technology transfer expertise to the UAE and to explore the possibility of offering food industry training at Irish research centres. 
“We have had very interesting and productive discussions with Minister Coveney, and will ensure that our contacts with Irish food and agriculture industry continue,” Agthia Group Chairman H.E. Rashed Mubarak Al Hajeri said.
“Ireland has a strong dairy industry, while Agthia is leading the way in producing and distributing high quality food and beverage products in the Middle East, so we see many areas of potential cooperation.”  
As part of the visit, the Irish executives toured Agthia’s dairy factory in Abu Samra, accompanied by Manufacturing & Operations Director Daniel Marie 
The Minister H.E. Simon Coveney, and the Irish Ambassador to the UAE, H.E. Patrick Henessey, were welcomed at Agthia’s head office in Abu Dhabi by Agthia Chairman, H.E. Rashed Mubarak Al Hajeri, and Chief Executive Officer Ilias Assimakopoulos.
